🐴 Horse Girls Grow Up — And Become Artists

Blog Series No. 2 | By Nina Barr | NinaBarr.Studio

Some of us never outgrow horses—we just find new ways to keep them close.

Before I was NinaBarr.Studio, I was a little girl with a sketchbook in one hand and horse hair on every hoodie I owned. I wasn’t just riding for ribbons—I was riding for peace, for connection, for the stories only a horse could help tell.

I didn’t know it at the time, but those early days of grooming, mucking, trail riding, and drawing on barn walls were shaping the artist I’d become.

Giving “Roxie Blue” a good soak 🛁

Years later, that horse-loving girl grew up and found her medium. Through ink, watercolor, and photography, I get to honor the animals and the lifestyle that shaped me. My work is rooted in legacy—not just of riders and horses, but of the quiet, tender moments between them.

Every piece I make carries the energy of the horse girl I still am—just with better pens and a steadier hand.

This blog series is just getting started. I’ll be sharing more behind-the-scenes from my studio, new pieces, client stories, and ideas for how art can elevate your everyday—from your stable office to your kitchen table.
