World Water Day 2022 showcases the Importance of Groundwater

World Water Day raises awareness to the 2.2 billion people without access to water. Every year since 1993, on March 22 the United Nations observes the importance of freshwater globally. This day is used to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

The core focus of World Water Day is to inspire a movement towards the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030. The United Nations (UN) has adopted 17 sustainable development goals to embrace a universal approach to the world. Hydro has an impact on all 17 goals.

Many themes are picked out each year. This year is all about groundwater. Groundwater is important by making the invisible, visible.

Groundwater is the water present underneath the Earth’s surface. Found in between the rock and soil pore spaces and in the fractures of rock formations. It makes up 99% of Earth’s liquid freshwater.

Imagine being in the hot desert, with no water and then after walking for hours, you come across an oasis. The groundwater that releases from underground forms an oasis. The groundwater controls many features on the Earth’s surface.

If we don’t have groundwater it affects our ability to survive with the nutrients we need to have energy for daily chores. The earth covers approximately 75% (97.5% salt water and 2.5% freshwater) of water in liquid and frozen forms. We need to protect the groundwater by using it sparingly and from contaminated chemicals.

The agriculture industry could help preserve the freshwater by limiting the amount of fertilizer used on plants.

Fresh water can be found in only six countries. They are Brazil, Russia, Canada, Indonesia, China, and Columbia.

In other countries, mostly in east Africa, lack basic water needs. As living organisms, we need fresh water for many reasons. Clean and fresh drinking water and sanitation are key factors to survive on our beautiful planet.

Safe drinking water is not in reach for everyone. Let us work together to sustainability manage the water resources and ensure water availability for all.

On a related note, clean, safe drinking water is important for our well-beings. Kangen water is a medically grade alkaline water that hydrates the body without chemicals. It uses a pH scale to specify the acidity and basicity of the water solution. This machine is a magical water resource to help the community find clean, fresh water.

Water is very vital for our humanity. Let’s join forces on March 22, and celebrate globally to protect the freshwater among us. As a community, we could honor this day by taking shorter showers, turning off the water while brushing our teeth, run full loads of dishes and laundry, and check for leaky faucets and have them fixed.

Grab a glass of water and cheers to World Water Day 2022!
