St Patrick’s full name is Maewyn Succat and was born to wealthy parents in Great Britain. He was not Irish, and found his faith while being held hostage by a group of Irish pirates. He was kidnapped at age 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave.

They were attacking his family’s estate and he was imprisoned for six years in captivity. During this time, he was working as a shepherd and outdoors. Lonely and afraid, he turned to religion. In a dream, he heard a voice from God that told him to escape from Ireland.

After he escaped and went back to Great Britain, he experienced another revelation. This time it was an angel, in a dream, that told him to return to Ireland as a Christian missionary. As he became a Minister to the Christians that were already living in Ireland. He began to convert them to the Irish faith.
